Hey there guys,

Sorry it’s been a while; I got caught up again in my uni studies and work, but be assured I have been tuning in to catch-up on latest K&K adventures.

Don’t really know what to tell you other than Anna and I have been doing the usual work and uni etc, etc… still TKD training, although not as much as I would like. I’m really just looking forward to Christmas, and finally having a break this year. Probably the most exciting thing Anna and I have done recently is bought a scooter, being over there in Europe you may have seen the type, it’s an Aprilia mojito (apparently the same type that Jamie Oliver rides, although that’s not the reason we bought it). I actually haven’t had the joy of riding it yet, but Anna has been using to go to work. It’s a good looking bike and surprisingly quite powerful for 50cc.

Great pictures on the blog, looks and sounds like you’re both having fun, look forward to seeing and reading more of your adventures.

Sorry, you were right, the pics do get bigger if you click on them.
I notice Canberra is 42km from sydney. I bet they used one of those primary school atlas that show all countries the same size. Lots of tourists coming to Australia do that and opt to hire a car for the day to see the Great Barrier Reef, Kakadoo (yes I know its spelt wrong) Eyres Rock, Snowy Mts, Tasmania and Kings Cross that night before flying out the next day.
Incidentally the Dean Bros were never hired to demolish anything in Brisy. It was always a big company that took a good look at the job and decided it was a dirty job they didn’t want to be associated with and flicked it to you know who.
You sometimes think you’re in a Doc Zeus book? I’ve got news for you thing 2.

No, you will not have to strip at the airport, they now have a device called a “T” ray which works near the infrared band and can see through your cloaths. You will walk into a thing like the old phone bax which has T ray beams and sensors along the walls and someone somewhere will be examining your basic statistics on a monitor. Any guns or nasty stuff is there to see. Fear of privacy invasion law suits is all thats holding it up. Next big scare and you will see them at all the airports. They showed it on one of those “Beyond Tomorrow” shows and they had to fuzzy out certain areas of the lady demonstrating. According to the new scientist if the person raises their arm you can count the hairs under their arms. No comment on other anatomical areas.

Phew!!!

I feel like I have just finished reading a novel. Finally managed to read through all of your recent Irish blog! It sounds like you guys have been doing a lot of travelling of late.

It is great to read what sort of travels you guys have been up to and to see the proof via the awesome piccie’s.

I guess, something I would like to hear and learn about via your opinions is a comparison of the different places… IE, which did you like better, Scotland or Ireland??? What are the similarities between Britain, Scotland and Ireland? What are the differences you noticed??? Also, it would be great to hear some comparsions to Aussie land 

Anyway, keep safe and keep up the bloging!!!

I think I would have been more worried by what else was on the Blarney stone other than fungus. Fungal infections are difficult to treat but not as much as some viral ones.

We saw Limerick, and debated going there, but realised writing an entire entry in 5 lines, with the first two, and the last line, ryhming, just wouldn’t work. So we skipped it. I’m sure its a lovely city. Maybe next time.
Sat Nav’s are great, this one just was a bit out of date, so as we were travelling down new motorways, the SAT NAV was having a fit, thinking we were travelling through fields.

Hi Marcela,

A ‘henge’ is my terming of such wondrous creations seen, (by putting the material name used to make said creation infront, you have the ‘henge’ described, for example, stonehenge, woodhenge, rubberhenge, icehenge (short term), fishfingerhenge (small and short term), etc.

I’m sure 4 of out of every 5 owls would agree with your rating of our adventures (with unaminous results from all hens).

If you would like me to go into HISTORY MODE, please feel free to let me know. I’ve tried to minimise it lately, because the blogs have been quite long, and I don’t want people suffering from DVT by the end.

In comparison, I would say things are done a whole lot better back home. It just seems like the old Philosophy of “the customer is always right” has long since died, and “We are sorry for any inconvenience this may cause (but we won’t do anything to make things better for you”, is alive and well. Everybody is so sorry that you find a problem with it, but are not prepared to admit there is a problem. I’m guessing that there are lots of reasons, one being how much the whole Liability issue have escalated to the point where no-one is willing to say that something is wrong, for fear of costing them something.
All this just re-inforces my belief in buying things in person, so you know you have what you wanted, and anything wrong can be sorted out there and then. Sure beats sitting on a phone for hours on end, listening to waiting music (with the 30 second intervals of “Your call is important to us, sorry for the wait, please stay on the line, a representative will be with you shortly), then talking to um-teen number of people, most of who are either too young to make any decisions for themselves, or are in a country on the other side of the world, whose total knowledge of the provided service is a daylong training seminar.
If this the the price for globalisation, then give me local stock anyday, at least you know it was made down the street, by old man Jenkins and sons, who the family has known for years. I’m sure they could throw together a good plasma TV and DVD recorder in no time.

Dear son,
welcome to the NEW theory of efficiency where the company makes bigger profits and the customer gets screwed. (but even more efficiently of course)

Don’t mean to be be so pessimistic but it seems to be happening so often these days. Like when the dairy industry was deregulated to make milk cheeper. The price of milk went up, the dairy farmers either went out of business or got less for the milk and the transport and marketers made a killing.

We enjoyed the phone call on Christmas too. It was great to talk to everyone, or at least hear the exploits on the other line.

If we weren’t at Andy and Isa’s place for New Year, I doubt I would have wanted to stay up either, though I’m pretty sure Kathleen would have wanted to call her Mum ay Midnight to wish in the new year.

So glad to hear from you. I am happy to say people are writing, both on the blog and via email.

I must admit the waking in dark, going to work, then coming home in the dark, can get a bit depressing. Then again, most of the day is overcast or raining, and cold. So if you don’t keep up some sort of positive attitude, you can get very depressed very easily. Sometimes I think the British did the Convicts a favour bringing them over to Australia.

I can’t get enough of the old series, with its shoestring budgets. CLASSIC!

Nice post of the travels. You must be loving that lack of daylight.

Not much to say, just a wave and hello to let you know people are actually paying attention… I know what it’s like when you write heaps of stuff and put up photos and then you get next to no replies.

I haven’t seen Torchwood, but I’m not a huge fan of the new Doctor Whos. Nice effects, lousy lousy scripts. But I’m a picky bugger, and I have the old series to compare it to (which a lot of newer viewers haven’t seen).

Hi Vince,
We have been watching Torchwood on BBC Three (or ‘flee’, says the anouncer with the rich scottish accent). I have to admit I’m a little disappointed with it, as it seems a little slow, with too much character focus episodes. Also I was sort of expecting Torchwood to be a fairly ‘organised’ organisation, not a ragtag scooby doo gang. If earth is relying on them when the supposed proverbal hits the fan in the 21st century, I think we’re toast. I also should admit, I still keep an eye out for when its next new episode is on.
I can’t wait for Doctor Who (hooo)to return. The new episode is sheduled for around christmas time. not sure when you guys will get it.
Also they are advertising a new tv movie, based on a Terry Pratchett book, called the ‘Hogfather’. If you’re not a reader of Pratchett, you probably won’t know of it. I’ve been getting into his books recently (read two of them during the flight over here).

Have you been watching much TV?? In particular have you seen the TV series “Torchwood” I think it’s on BBC Three. Anna and I have watched some episodes that someone at work had downloaded from the internet and it looks good. It’s a spin off from the new Doctor Who series. I realise that TV is probably not high on your list of things to watch when you’ve got much more interesting sights to see over there but I though you may have seen or been watching it.

Not much to say though. Weather in Brisvegas = hot. Dry.

Re cable tv – just axe it, spend the money on a nice fast net connection, and download the lot.

(Then you can spend hours explaining to Kathleen why the aspect ratio is not quite right, how compression artifacts are formed, why the sound goes out of sync, and exactly how this is better than just paying for a normal TV service. Hours of fun! Yay for technology!)

Hi Mum,

We will try to get more shots of us at various locations. This was the first time we had someone else with us to take the photo (that Keith trusted to hand the camera over to).
They always say the camera puts on about 20 pounds, or it could have been that we were huddling together because of the cold. We haven’t put on any more wieght, by the way. We’ve checked. Must be the illusion of the extra clothing we are having to wear.
The castle had walls about 2-4 feet thick, so I don’t think its going anywhere soon. I think the lean is a trick of perspective, and my slightly off camera work.
Thanks for the parcel, by the way. We will put the flag up during the Ashes tour.

Dear kids, loved the castle although I must admist that the people standing on top of the turret seemed to be taking a risk, as it looked decidedly unsafe – a bit of a lean to one side, and sort of crumbling at the bottom. Can`t get over how green it all is. Loved the phot of you both – that is the first one so far that has included yourselves – more please. I can`t help but notice that both of you seem to have chubbier cheeks – must be the pommy food. sending email with couple of articles love mumxx

Perhaps Blue is coming back in as a skin colour. Now to find the white cap and leggings…
Kathleen is all better now, just took about 5 days. She is also going to a number of interviews for jobs, so hopefully employment is just round the bend.
I’m more than happy to observe said bears from a distance, not requiring hands-on (or off) experience. It would be too much to bear.

Dear Kathleen and Keith, Hope you are over yor first Pommie bug. Did you have any luck with your interview? I was always under the impression that the English railway system was one of the most efficient and modern there is – maybe the long haul (eg The Flying Scotsman) are more reliable. Loved the photos of canals etc. Is your house upstairs/downstairs or do you only have the ground floor. We had a few days of heatwave conditions, then all of a sudden it reverted to winter time again (yes in October) with cold gale force winds and rain .
Looking forward to photos of 221 Baker St. and also of castles – I`m sure there are a few around your area.

Interested to know about grocery shopping – prices etc, and availability. Also interested to know mortgage interest rates etc. Have you contacted Hyldred yet????

We could use a bit of that 40 degrees right now, and I predict we would love a lot of it during the next 3 months.
We have radiators in a lot of the rooms, which are connected to the hotwater system. They do a really good job of heating a room. We love our radiators right now.

Dear Kids, love your blog though a little disappointed that the first pictures I see are those of turtles!!! Some photos of typical english life wouild be appreciated. • Differences you find in the UK;
• Places you travel to;
• What sort of things of you are doing at Work;
• What you apartment is like;
• And of course, include pictures.
